Our organization believes all of our neighbors deserve to live, work, and go about their daily lives without fear of government sanctioned violence or the erosion of their constitutional rights. We condemns the escalating actions by US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) that jeopardinze the rights of our neighbors and threaten diverse communities that call our region home.
We have identified local partners to hold ICE accountable. We decry the lack of transparency, accountability, and respect for the our constitution.
Whistle Kit Initiative
Pittsburgh LGBTQ Charities is taking action as an organization. We’ve decided to lean into our existing projects by distributing whistle kits (and information) throughout the LGBTQ+ community and the animal welfare/pet owner worlds, in addition to our nearby neighbors on the Northside.

If your LGBTQ+ organization, your rescue, your group of friends would like whistle kits, we are one resource. We see you doing important work throughout the region, especially in areas that aren’t friendly or supportive. We know our immigrant and refugee neighbors are also part of the LGBTQ+ community and also have pets or care for community cats.
We’d like to distribute kits
- Drag Shows/Brunches
- Cat TNR Clinics
- Vaccine Clinics
- Meetings for LGBTQ elders, youth, anyone
- Food Distros
- GSA’s
- Pride events
- other
There is no charge for kit/kits, but we do rely on donations to support the folx creating these materials – the whistles are printed with 3D printers that require materials, the print materials, the translations, the bags, all of it. Our focus is connecting our existing core target populations with kits so your support to us helps us gather the needed materials without stressing those creators’s resources. Our links are below.
Our graphic designer, Joe Wos, created an version of our mascot, Gertie, for this purpose. While whimsical, the intent is to draw your attention to the project and our determination to show up for our neighbors.
We also strongly encourage you to invest in the direct mutual support groups offer neighbors who have been detained or fear being detained, including those who are sheltering in place.
