About Us

Pittsburgh LGBTQ Charities was established in 2021 to raise community awareness and promote grassroots engagement for neighborhood quality of life, animal welfare, anti-poverty, and LGBTQ+ issues in Western Pennsylvania.

Our History

Pittsburgh LGBTQ Charities grew out of the experiences of Board President Sue Kerr, a social worker and blogger, working on various community projects over the past twenty years. Something she saw repeatedly were simple gaps in services. Working with a variety of community partners, she created programming to fill these gaps including

After partnering with the Pittsburgh Equality Center to distribute face masks to LGBTQ neighbors, she realized that it was time to fill another gap – establishing a 501c3 rather than continuing to seek fiscal sponsors. She worked with respected nonprofit advisors to create this little nonprofit to more effectively steward the investments and respond to community needs.

No one anticipated that we’d be call to action so early with the #ProtectTransKids, but the capacity of PLC to hit the ground running to distribute over 1000 yard signs, 5000 stickers, and 2500 pens – all funded by donations – is a testament to the strategic vision of the organizations founding board members and advisors.

PLC was formally established on October 22, 2021.

2022 was very busy. We stepped up to support our neighbors with the #ProtectTransKids projects. We also worked on our #PghCatFolx programs.
